The Tornado Watch area is approximately along and 55 statute miles east and west of a line from 85 miles north of Valentine Nebraska to 40 miles east southeast of Imperial Nebraska. Hayes County in southwest Nebraska... this includes the city of Hayes Center... eastern Keith County in southwest Nebraska... eastern Perkins County in southwest Nebraska... * until 415 am mdt(515 am cdt) * at 1115 PM CDT... the public reported flash flooding from a thunderstorm between Wauneta and palasade... with water over Highway 6. Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams... country roads... as well as farmland along the banks of creeks and streams... particularly along the stinking water and Frenchman creeks. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. If flash flooding is observed act quickly. Move up to higher ground to escape flood waters. Widespread severe thunderstorms take aim at western and southwestern Nebraska Wednesday evening... A strong cold front began to approach western Nebraska late in the afternoon on Wednesday. As this feature moved into deep low level moisture... and a strongly sheared environment... numerous thunderstorms developed across the eastern Panhandle and western portions of Nebraska. The threat for severe thunderstorms prompted the Storm Prediction Center to issue a Tornado Watch for locations west of Highway 83. The first Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued at 534 PM CDT for portions of Perkins and Chase counties. The storm responsible for the warning produced Golf Ball sized hail 6 miles southwest of Brandon. The first Tornado Warning was issued at 710 PM CDT for western Cherry County with a report of a tornado at 712 PM CDT 20 miles south of Merriman. Through midnight CDT... a total of 44 severe warnings were issued across western and north central Nebraska. A total of 16 large hail reports... one severe wind report and 11 reports of tornadoes were received at the North Platte National Weather Service office.
